Patternmaking for Underwear Design

I bought this book for the bra making pattern which was difficult to work with at best. She uses a standard 34b bra size to do the cup and the band. I was not sure how to get the band to my size except to add to it in the back. This book shows a fairly good dart manipulation example but failed to give thorough direction for the entire process to help with the design changes in making bras and designing my own patterns. The book does show how to make a sloper for most patterns. I enjoyed the way this book is layed out but she doesn’t state some things that one must wonder about to figure out how to use what she has written.

I used an internet site called Patternschool.com in which the owner has a full two pages dedicated to both the bra band and the bra cup patternmaking process.

I have never seen such a maze of difficulty in the way information is put together in the bra making process. I bought this book after I bought the Bra-Making Manual which is a great book for making bra patterns and doing different designs but the copyright listed doesn’t allow one to use her information for any purpose other than making one your own bra. Kristina Chin does allow her work to be used (not copied but used) for education purposes. Her work along with Stuart’s who is author of the Patternschool web site has helped me learn the pattern making process for bras.

There is a lot more in the book besides bra pattern making but that so far is all I can really review. I think I could use this book for the block patterns. She does have a full sizing list for all sizes based on existing measurments in the garment making business.

The book appears complete and does seem to offer most of what the author claims to teach.

Missing Critical Information

This book is absolutely useless because it is missing the critical bit of information which tells the reader how to turn body measurements into an appropriately sized paper pattern. This book contains extensive tables of body measurements and worldwide sizing guides, but does not interpret that data for the process of building a pattern. As another reviewer wrote, unless you happen to be a 34B, you can’t use the book. I also found it frustrating that this book was written by someone whose first language is not English and who does not have a good editor. The book contained all kinds of awkward sentence structures which made it difficult to read.

Must read if you are a newbie.

Best book to teach you about drafting bras, panties, camis, etc. The directions are a bit vague sometimes, but by looking at the illustration, you can figure out what the author means. I love this book. This is what I have been looking for.

No more Funk in your Junk!

I gave up warm weather underwear many years ago because I was spending most of my time wandering through woods and swamps and mountains and such. Nuthin’ like a soggy crotch to make you really hate your work. Well, these beauties have solved that sticky problem. They allow moisture and air to move very, very well. They are soft, especially at the crucial inguinal fold (think no more wet teabag rash)and do not roll or bunch up at the leg openings. They stretch easily and have a smooth hand that allows the fabric of one’s pants to slide rather than catch and create potentially painful wrinkles. Unlike many poly fabrics they do not grow thier own odor. They’re lightweight and compact and dry very quickly after washing. Because of the stretch the fit seems very adaptable. Buy them.

Fantastic for Alpine Style Climbing

I have been on many expeditions around the world….over 30 different countries. I never bought in to spending $20 on a pair of underwear. I lived in the bush for 117 days and trekked through 12 countries in subsaharan Africa with normal underwear on. WOW! What a mistake. After the first 2 weeks I ended up wearing the same pair of short swim trunks and cut the net out. They offered no support but did maximize breathability. I recently went to Russia to climb the north face of Mt. Elbrus (much more demanding than anticipated). I decided to buy these ExOfficio Sport Briefs. Unbelievable!!!!!!!! Not only did they offer great support, they allowed for unprecedented breathability and were not at all constricting. I had free range of motion and never really thought about wearing them. When navigating 70 degree boulder fields and crevasse filled glaciers the last thing you want to be thinking about is your underwear. I give these 2 big thumbs up. I wore the same pair the entire time…never took them off. They were as fresh as the mountain air at the end of 11 days. Great buy! Worth every Penny!

Perfect!

Exactly what I was looking for. I purchased these as well as the Brook equilibrium brief. These are better — more comfortable and breath better. I use them for running, wearing them under tights or heavier shorts in the cold winter months. Other than the support, you wouldn’t even know you were wearing them. I will be buying more.

Stand on the playground for the duration of recess or in the hall for the duration of lunch and you’ll listen the general conversations when it comes to boys, girls, sports, homework, teachers, and student life in general; but what you’re also likely to listen are a lot of disrespectful remarks being made by one student to another. Generally these are not scathing remarks that will scar an person for life, but they are rude, disrespectful, sarcastic, and fundamentally unsuitable remarks for any person to make to another.

Sometimes as teachers we forget that our occupation is not only to provide the prospect and selective information to learn–it is likewise our occupation to provide a safe and positive school and learning surroundings where learning may take place. Most of us are quick to stop straightout aggressive conduct or violent talk, but far too many times the more mild disrespectful and sarcastic remarks are permitted to go unchallenged.

Whether we are conscious of it or not, we are behavioral models for all students. If we concede or ignore disrespectful remarks amid students, irrespective of how mild, we are sending the message that these types of remarks are acceptable. Our ignoring or refraining from commenting upon these remarks genuinely reinforces this behavior, increasing the likelihood that such remarks will carry on to be made. As teachers, we can’t control what happens in a student’s life at home, at work, or even in the hallway–but we may control what happens in our classrooms (Beamon, 2001; Daniel and Benton, 1995).

As educators, it is our occupation to insure that all students are treated with basic respect while in our classroom and in our presence. According to Valerio (2001), a classroom is a “theatrical stage” that ought to be designed in advance to make students feel comfortable with their instructor, peers, and environment. How we structure our classrooms and what types of behavings and conversations we concede has a substantial affect on the sensed safety of our classroom.

It is indispensable to keep in mind that safety and trust are determined on an individual basis by each student in the classroom. Although we may believe our classrooms are safe and each student feels he/she may take risks in the academic and social environment, this may not be the case. Our students may be physically safe, but if basic respect is not mandated in our classrooms, then some of our students will feel in an emotional manner unsafe, which will negatively affect social and academic growth.

When students enter the classroom, they are bringing with them years of experiences and issues from the outside world. They have interacted with each other on a lot of levels outside of school. Along with these outside interactions come deep-seated sensations regarding sure classmates. Regardless of whether these sensations are warranted, it is improbable that we may modify them. What we can modify is the behavings students alter in response to those feelings. It is our obligation to ascertain that our students give one another basic respect.

Basic respect must be a bottom-line requirement for all individuals, adults and students alike, who enter our classroom. Students do not have to like everyone in the class, but they must be required to give basic respect to everyone. Let me say that one more time. You (students, teachers, aides, administrators, parents, etc.) don’t have to like every one in the classroom, but you will afford them basic respect at all times. This statement must be the mantra in all classroom settings nationwide.

It is always wise to begin each school year with a classroom discussion regarding the rules and rituals that will be followed for the year. Many of the classroom rules and rituals must be invented by and in joint operation with the students so there is a sentiment of ownership, but not all rules ought to be negotiable. Classroom safety and basic respect must not be negotiated, and it must be made very clear that violation of these two bottom-line rules will not be tolerated. Students need to know that rude, sarcastic, threatening, mean-spirited, or negative comments, whether said in jest or not, will be met with consequences.

Due to today’s media, a heap of students have learned to use sarcasm as a form of communication and humor. Sarcastic humor is one of the most sophisticated forms of humor and most students and adults do have the social and aroused achievements to use this form of humor correctly. Many humans use sarcastic humor to veil threats, belittle others, point out flaws, or improve their position in a social group, all under the guise of humor. To concede such “humor” in our classroom sets a dangerous precedent. It sends students the message that they can not be in an open way disrespectful, but they may be covertly disrespectful if they cloak their remarks with sarcastic humor.

Since a heap of of our students have never been taught what basic respect is and how to give it, how do we aid them understand this concept? A simple method is to make this part of the rules and rituals discussion at the beginning of the school year (or each new term if classes change). Have the students name a heap of of the humans they admire and would treat with the utmost respect. Remind them that you are not asking them who they idolize (rock stars, sports figures, movie stars), but whom they admire and would give the utmost respect to in all situations. The list might include judges, grandparents, priests, bosses, and military personnel. Then tell the class that any comment not fit to be made to one of these valued persons will have to not be made to another person in or out of the classroom.

There is a high likelihood that not all faculty will hold their students to this high standard, and this will make your occupation that much more difficult. Obviously, if this were a school-wide policy, students would learn to be respectful in all school situations. The fact that it will not be imposed by all faculty ought to not deter you from requiring basic respect in your classroom and in your presence. If as teachers we hold firm to the basic respect rule, our students will feel safer, and that sentiment of physical and aroused safety will afford them the learning surroundings that will maximize learning and positive academic outcomes.

They formulated jeans that were labeled “low rise,” while the thong distributors were quick to point out that low rise jeans gave more appeal to the teenage girls who wore thongs, since the top portion and v-style of the thongs permitted women to show off their lingerie in a somewhat sensuous yet revealing manner.

In the year 2000, just two years after the launch of the thong, Americans purchased more than 123 million thongs; thereby doubling the sales of 1998. Even more demoralizing for numerous persons of the older generations, was the fact that young parents expended their hard-earned dollars buying thongs for their daughters who were amid the ages of 10 to 16.

Nevertheless, fashion trends may come and go, but one thing is for sure-although thongs and thong bikinis are not rather as general as they were in former years, the thong bikini is here to stay. The only other fashion trends that have crept up close behind the thong bikini are the Brazilian bikini, and a bikini that the Australians produced that is called the backless thong. With this type of thong, the straps in the back slip gently underneath the butt cheek crease, while the strings on the sides hook together around the hips like bra straps.

Great thong

I’ve been wearing thongs for a while now and just picked this one up figuring I’d make make the plunge to designer thongs as the dept store thongs are just too generic for my tastes. This is my first designer thong and I cant believe how comfortable it is. It just barely covers my package and be it not for the support it provides you’d swear I’m going commando and best of all the material is stretchy enough to grow with me when I get aroused without it getting uncomfortable. I’m definitely going to buy more of these things and the wife loves’em on me too.

This is a one size fits most. If you are a 34D like I am, it’s not the most flattering on top. But, once again, you get what you pay for. If the lighting is right, I think this will be a sexy piece.
