The world has seen a good deal of fashion icons all around time altering trends of shoe and costume styles….
Audrey Hepburn with her long black gloves and cigarette holder, Marilyn Monroe with that all so famous white flared dress, Princess Diana with her innumerable flawless outfits and of course Sarah Jessica Parker with her chic high heel shoes.
But no fashion icon has made a heap of a massive affect on their era as Edie Sedgwick.
Edie ripped up the rule book and developed a new, arousing and attention holding style of her own which totally turned the 1960′s upside down.
Her dynamically dissimilar sense of style came from spending her early year’s studying art in Cambridge which followed to her moving to New York and getting Andy Warhol’s muse and one of the most widely known and esteemed “Factory Girls”.
Her style was different from any person else’s before her.
She was known for her huge sweeping earrings, pointed high heel shoes, leopard prints, black tights, dramatic eye make-up and her pixie short bleach blonde hair.
Edie was a 1960′s socialite and had each girl of her time wanting to look just like her as soon her fame arose.
Her 15 minutes of fame were without doubt a well expended 15 minutes that reset the rules of fashion.
Fashion today is still a reflectivity of what Edie Sedgwick introduced to the world of those years ago.
Pointed high heel shoes are still an necessary for each girl. Edie was the primary to promote the shoe in an iconic and trendy way, just like shoulder sweeping earrings (also known as statement earrings). These outstanding fashion accessaries have not long ago done a major come back on the catwalk and now on the high street and it seems that each girl is running out buying the biggest pair of statement earrings they may find which again, Miss Sedgwick herself initially brought to the world of fashion.
To get Edie’s sensational 60′s style there are a few DO’s and DON’Ts.
DO -
- Wear BIG statement earrings – the more spectacular the better. Edie applied to have earrings that would sit on her shoulders
- Pull out Leopard print garments – if you can’t pull off leopard print clothes then use leopard print accessories, like bags, belts or shoes
- Keep hair short and blonde
- Wear high heel pointed shoes
- Invest in a baker boys hat
- Buy a huge pair of shades to wear on your head whilst wearing your baker boys hat
- Look in vintage/second shops – you may find a lot of astounding buys (clothes and shoes) in vintage shops and may even be competent to find a lot of original 60′s garments
- Experiment with material and textures of costume and shoes
- Where dark eye make-up
- Add your own style to Edie’s – Edie was a fashion icon but modernise the look by adding a twist of your own style to it
DON’T -
- Bleach your hair yourself – every one may spot a DIY occupation so see to it you go to the hairdressers
- Mix animal prints
- Wear flat shoes – any head turning outfit is always finished off with a pair of high heel shoes
- Over do the black eyes – Edie may have got away with it but very few people can
- Wear real furs – you may find realistic looking bogus furs for a fraction of the price and lets face it, who wants to be wearing an animal over them?
